NBA Awards And Playoff Predictions
By Ron Jumper

The NBA playoffs are about to get underway and I think this is going to be a great postseason. The East has 3 “heavyweights” in Cleveland, Boston, and Orlando. Who will emerge? How long will KG be out and what does it mean for Boston? Over in the West, the Lakers are the best team but everyone else is separated by just a few games. For example, if the Hornets win the series against Denver, is that really a mind-blowing upset? I wouldn’t think so. On the other side, if Chicago eliminates Boston or Philly eliminates Orlando, that would be a serious upset. Now, I’ve got some awards and playoff predictions to make.

NBA Awards:

MVP: LeBron James, Cleveland
It has to be LeBron, as the Cavs have the best record in the league and the numbers are outstanding.
**For the record, Dwyane Wade has had a magical year and should be recognized.

Coach Of The Year: (Tie)
1a. Stan Van Gundy, Orlando
The Magic won 59 games, which is even more impressive considering the loss of Jameer Nelson.

1b. Nate McMillan, Portland
Consider the Trail Blazers win total has improved the last 4 years (21-32-41-54).

ROY: Derek Rose, Chicago
I’ll be honest, not the most amazing rookie class ever but Rose has played well.

6th Man of the Year: Jason Terry, Dallas
Averaging just under 20 holding down the Mavs second unit.

Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard, Orlando
Only the 5 player in history to lead the league in blocks and rebounds.

Most Improved: Devin Harris, New Jersey
In my mind, has established himself as an elite point guard.

NBA Playoffs

West:
1 Lakers Over 8 Jazz
Utah lacks interior defense.

2 Nuggets Over 7 Hornets
Goes to 7 games, but Carmelo has a big series.

6 Mavs over 3 Spurs
Mild upset, not having Manu hurts.

5 Rockets over 4 Trail Blazers
Houston much more experienced.

East:
1 Cavs Over 8 Pistons
Detroit has no shor.

2 Celtics Over 7 Bulls
C’s survive a scare.

3 Magic Over 76ers
Orlando swept season series.

4 Hawks Over 5 Heat
Inexperience of Chalmers and Beasely makes the difference.

NBA Finals:

1 Lakers Over 1 Cavs (In 6)
The Lakers are the better team with the better coach and, dare I say, the best player in the game. Kobe, at this point, is much more experienced and will outshine LeBron. The Lakers have proven they can win in Cleveland, which is part of what makes the Cavs so tough.
