Fantasy Football Rundown: Week 6
By Ric Atkinson

First things first. Stop reading this article and go check your leagues wavier wire and pickup Kurt Warner if he is available.

Okay, with that out of the way let’s look at week #6.

With the Colts, Broncos, Lions, Steelers, and 49ers all taking the week off, there will be some of spots to be filled in just about everyone’s fantasy lineups. With so many fantasy studs resting this week, I look for a lot of low scoring fantasy match ups, and low scores drive up the importance of your defense/special teams. A big game from your defense could be the difference between winning and losing this week. So here’s what I think will be the best defenses to have in your lineup this week.

1.Vikings (at Bears):
Vikes are 2nd in the league in takeaways and the Bears Offense can’t run or pass.

2. Bears (vs. Vikings):
The Vikings can’t pass so the Bears will gear up to stop Peterson.

3. Seahawks (vs. Saints):
The Saints are in a freefall, and Seattle’s D should shine this week.

4. Ravens (vs. Rams):
Talk about a huge mismatch on paper.

5. Eagles (at Jets):
Coming of a Bye, Philly got healthy this week. Pennington can’t throw deep so the Eagles will make him pay by bringing pressure.

6. Jaguars (vs. Houston):
The Texans are beat up and the Jags are a very solid D.

7. Giants (at Atlanta):
A defense that is really putting it all together versus an offense that’s still very shaky.

8. Cardinals (vs. Carolina):
Delhomme’s injury leaves the Panthers offense in limbo until Carr settles into the starter’s role.

Speaking of the Cardinals, did you pickup Kurt Warner off your leagues wavier wire yet?

Receivers and tight ends can’t score fantasy points unless their QB throws the ball to them. Here’s a list of the players who have been thrown to the most so far the season.

1. TJ Houshmandadeh – 14.3 looks per game
2. Derrick Mason – 12.6 looks per game
3. Chad Johnson – 12.0 looks per game
4. Larry Fitzgerald – 11.8 looks per game
5. Anquan Boldin – 10.7 looks per game
6. Antonio Gates – 10.0 looks per game
7. Javon Walker – 10.0 looks per game
8. Andre Johnson – 10.0 looks per game
9. Donald Driver – 9.6 looks per game
10. Chris Chambers – 9.6 looks per game

Did you notice that number 4 and number 5 on the above list will both be catching passes thrown by Kurt Warner for the rest of the year? If you haven’t already done it, you really need to check your leagues wavier wire to see if Warner is available.

Monday night Jason Witten was targeted 15 times (more than any wide receiver in week 5). Kellen Winslow was thrown to 12 times and Dallas Clark got 9 looks. I wonder how long it has been since Antonio Gates was the 4th most targeted TE for a week.

Let’s see what’s in the mail bag this week:

Dale in Charlotte asked:
“Who are your top 10 fantasy quarterbacks for the rest of the season?”

Good question. Off the top of my head, I’d say
1. Payton Manning
1a. Tom Brady
3. Tony Romo
4. Carson Palmer
5. Bret Farve
6. Jon Kitna
7. Kurt Warner (if he’s available on your WW stop wasting time reading this and go pick him up)
8. Matt Schaub
9. Phillip Rivers
10. Donavan McNabb

Harold is Denver asked:
“Who’s the biggest fantasy bust of the season?”

I’ve got to go with Larry Johnson but then I own him in two different leagues so I might just be bitter. A real good case could be made for Stephen Jackson, Marc Bulger, Drew Brees, or Lawrence Maroney. The good news for my fellow LJ owners is that the Chiefs have a pretty soft schedule for the rest of the year.

Jon is Memphis sent this one in:
“Lee Evan is killing me at WR. Should I bit the bullet and just drop him?”

I wouldn’t drop him. He’s always started slow and finished very strong. Here’s a breakdown of his career touchdowns scored by months:

Sept – 0 TDs Oct- 3 TDs Nov – 7 TDs Dec – 14 TDs

He could very well end up a great player to have when the fantasy playoff’s role around.

That’s it for this week. But before I go I have to ask: Did you check your leagues wavier wire to see if Kurt Warner is available?

Remember: Always start your studs.
