NFL Fantasy Rundown: Week 5
By Ric Atkinson

Injuries are a part of the NFL. You know they’re going to happen. How well and how quickly you react will determine how good your fantasy season will end up. Sometimes it’s about filling a hole in your roster created by a key injury. Sometimes it’s about keeping someone in your league from picking up the guy that can plug a hole in their roster. Let’s take a look at some key guys you need to keep an eye on.

Selvin Young (RB, Denver)
Young is going to be a guy you want to pickup. Travis Henry is hurt, and may be facing a one year drug related suspension. Young will be the man in Denver’s running game if Henry is gone. This is the chance to get a guy who will be putting up stud running back numbers. Don’t miss out.

Dominic Rhodes (RB, Oakland)
Rhodes is coming off his drug suspension at just the right time. Lamont Jordan’s back injury looks to be more serious than Oakland is letting on. Rhodes might pick up right where Jordan left off.

(You need to keep an eye on Brian Westbrook. Rumors are out there that he has a tear in his abdomen that may keep him out for the rest of the season. This is huge news if true.)

Kevin Jones (RB, Detroit)
He is well, and will be getting more carries each week. He’s also getting all the red zone carries. He can be a great #3 running back for any fantasy team.

Dwayne Bowe (WR, KC)
He is the number one wide receiver in KC now. He’s got all the tools, and a prime opportunity. He’ll make rookie mistakes but he’s a good option for a #3 WR.

Sammy Morris (RB, NE)
Maroney will be a gametime decision this week. Morris has shown that he is a very capable running back who fits the Pats system very well. Look for solid number from Morris until Maroney comes back, then look for them to split carries after that.

Let’s look at this week’s mail bag:

Chad in Seattle asked:
“With the Dolphins team struggling mightily, can Ronnie Brown keep this up?”

I think so. He is a talented guy. He is the key man on his team. And most importantly, he finally seems to be motivated. I don’t really like him as a number one RB, but I really like him as a #2.

Sam in Philly sent this in:
“Was Daunte Culpepper's performance a one-time thing or is he worth picking up off the wire?”

I’ve got to see more before I’m buying Daunte. Obviously he wanted to show Miami that they made a mistake letting him go. Yea, he scored some TDs but keep in mind that he was 5 of 12 for 75 yards passing.

Marc B. in St. Louis sent in this question:
“Do you know where to find an entire NFL ready offensive line?”

I don’t actually know, but I will say St. Louis is not the best place to look.

Bill in Gainesville asked:
“With Caddy going down, should I pick up Earnest Graham or Michael Pittman?”

I’d look for better options. There is a lot of talk about Tampa trying to work a trade for any serviceable running back. Remember, the Bucs also lost a key offensive lineman this week. I’d stay completely away from the Tampa Bay situation, unless they work a trade with the Vikings for Chester Taylor.

That’s it for this week. Good luck, and remember: Always start your studs.
