Free March Madness Picks: National Championship
By Ron Jumper

With a 2-0 ATS semifinal round behind me, I hope to finish off on a good note in the National Championship. Florida and Ohio State both dominated their opponents in the semis but should get a great test out of each other. It is going to be a heavyweight battle of top prospects that get to showcase their talents on a national stage. With Oden, Noah, and Horford all considered locks for the top 10 if they choose to turn pro, it is safe to say this is one of the more talented title bouts in recent memory. I expect it to be a gut-wrenching battle until the end.

20-13-1 ATS (61%)

Ohio State (+5) covers vs. Florida

What is that? Have I lost it you ask. No, not completely. I might have a few screws loose but my basketball IQ is still going strong. I have Ohio State in this game because I think it is going to be a close game that will come down to the last seconds. The Buckeyes are being disrespected, in my opinion, by the national audience. They are a talented and deep basketball team. They have size and shooters all over the place. It is also important to look at Florida’s road to the title game and decide for yourself how tough a route it was.

Look at Purdue and Butler, who had no starters taller than 6'7".

The Oregon Ducks top 4 scorers are all under 6'6".

The Bruins didn't have a player over 6'5" that averaged double digits.

My point is that Noah and Horford have had no one to challenge them at all inside. They have gotten away with subpar performances because of the lack of size on the opposing teams. Meanwhile, Greg Oden will be a much bigger challenge.

One of the biggest factors in championship games is 3-point shooting, nothing can turn a game quicker than someone catching fire and making 3 or 4 threes in a row. This is where it just depends on who has a big night, or the x-factor if you will. Green, Humphrey, and Brewer can knock it down for Florida while Lewis, Butler, Harris, Cook, and Lighty can light it up for Ohio State.

With all these factors leading me to believe the game will be close, I have to go with the ultimate difference-maker. Mike Conley, Jr. is a star and there is no way around it. He makes all the big plays and does the little things that you may or may not notice. Whether it is a big bucket or scrapping for a loose ball, you can count on Conley to make the play when it matters.
