Free NFL Playoff Picks: Week 3
By Ron Jumper

Could there be a better matchup than New England at Indianapolis? Honestly, you have to be chomping at the bits to watch this game. Not that the Saints-Bears game won’t be exciting, but this has all the makings of an instant classic. Manning and Brady, Dungy and Belichick, what more could you ask for? In the other game, you have an inspiring Saints team taking on a tough Bears team. The Bears haven’t been pretty very often this season, however, they just keep on winning games. Last week, I went 3-1 ATS and 4-0 SU. That improves me to 5-3 ATS and 8-0 SU for the entire playoffs.

Let’s get started….

Chicago Bears (-2) cover vs. New Orleans Saints

The Bears are just so tough in Chicago. The cold weather and hard-hitting of the Bears defense will be a huge advantage. Typically, a southern team or a dome team struggles in the cold. The Saints are a southern team who plays in a dome…uh-oh. While I love Drew Brees and their offense, I actually believe it will be their downfall. Sean Payton gets so enamored with the passing game that he gets away from the power running Deuce McCallister provides. It nearly cost them the game against the Eagles. With the lead in the 4th quarter, Deuce should have been getting plenty of touches. Instead, there were short drives due to incomplete passes, not to mention that Bush nearly blew the game on that botched toss attempt. I see the Bears linebackers being the difference in the game for two reasons. First, they have the ability to make the Saints one-dimensional. Second, they have the speed to take away the swing passes to Bush and McCallister that the Saints offense thrives on. I see Brees having one of his worst performances of the year and Payton making just a few too many gutsy calls. Bears 24-17

Indianapolis Colts (-3) covers vs. New England Patriots

I haven’t lost it. I swear I still have all my marbles. I got a gut instinct on this one and I’m taking it. Peyton Manning will have an excellent game and the Colts take care of business at home. For the Colts, they match up very well in this contest. The Colts defense is designed to take away the deep throw and rush the passer. The Patriots run game hasn’t been much to be concerned about, they threw 51 times last week! On offense, the Colts should be able to get the ball down the field. The Patriots have gotten by the last 2 weeks without Rodney Harrison, not so this week. Against the Jets, they weren’t exposed because of Pennington’s lack of arm strength. Against the Chargers, Schottenheimer was much too conservative to attack down the field. The Colts have Peyton Manning throwing to Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, much bigger problem for the Patriots secondary. Expect a game for the ages. Colts 35-31
