Championship Special: MAC
By Ron Jumper
Championship weekend in college football is here. After the weekend concludes, we will know the ACC, Big East, Big 12, Conference USA, MAC, and SEC conference champions. The BCS will be all figured out and then the debates over who got snubbed and who didn’t deserve what bowl bid will begin. Aww, gotta love this time of year…

Ohio (+3.5) covers vs. Central Michigan
Amazingly enough, Ohio is a solid football team. They have a very good defense and big play guys on offense and special teams. At running back, Kalvin McRae does it running and catching. McRae has had 7 straight games with at least 100 yards and a touchdown, during which Ohio won all 7. On special teams, Chris Garrett is 3rd in the nation in punt returns at around 16 yards a return. I’ve always felt a great recipe for success is a good defense, a good running attack, and game-breakers on special teams.
However, Central Michigan takes a completely different approach. Coach Bryan Kelly loves to spread the ball around and light up the scoreboard. His team leads the MAC with 29.5 points per contest. Dan LeFevour is the man to watch for Central Michigan, he has 28 total touchdowns running and passing. The problem I see for the Chippewas is simple, they lack a solid running game and the Ohio defense is good enough to make them one-dimensional.
