Get Off Shaq, Seriously
By Ron Jumper
The media has gotten on Shaq hard about his performances over this past season, but I just want to remind everyone a few things about Shaq. These are things just to keep in mind when you knock the guy or make a wise crack about him.
-Shaq wasn't the guy who dropped the f-bomb to the media( Mark Cuban).
-Shaq wasn't the guy who mocked reporters( Avery Johnson).
-Shaq wasn't the guy who drop-kicked tables, bikes, and chairs(Dirk Nowitzki).
-Shaq wasn't the guy who missed clutch free throws in the 4th quarter and overtime( Josh Howard and, once again, Dirk).
-Shaq wasn't the guy who called a timeout before D-Wade shot the second free throw in OT( Avery Johnson/Josh Howard).
-Shaq wasn't the guy who whined about the officials all week( the entire Mavericks organization).
-Shaq wasn't the guy who was charged with rape allegations( Kobe Bryant).
-Shaq wasn't the guy who wrote a book bitching about the Lakers and then sold out to coach them again( Phil Jackson).
-Shaq wasn't wearing black and white, nor carrying a whistle at any point during the NBA Finals.
-Shaq isn't in his prime and has been in the league since 1992 so give him some credit for accepting his new role on the team.
On another note... People say Shaq is overrated and that Dwyane Wade carried the team on his back, which there is some truth there. However, do you think the Miami Heat would have won the NBA title without making the trade for Shaq? Lets say they still have Caron Butler, Lamar Odom, and Chucky Atkins, does that team win a championship? I don't see it happening.
Shaq and the Miami Heat were a class act the entire finals. There is something to be said for that. Beyond basketball, Shaq donates more time and money to charity than the vast majority of NBA players. Dwyane Wade is a classy, talented young man. I can't wait to see what the future holds for him.
Just accept it, the Miami Heat are the champs and, to be honest, they wanted it more than Dallas did. Dallas made great strides and truly impressed me, but they lacked that killer instinct that makes great teams championship teams. Get over it...
