Here is the final week of picks until bowl season, as we have the conference championship matchups and a few remaining Top 25 games to go. Thursday finally gave us the Pac-10 winner, as the Oregon Ducks survived their in-state rival Oregon State. The Ducks have a great season, which is surprising considering how atrocious they looked in their opener against Boise State. They even have LeGarrette Blount back in the mix, which should pay dividends in their Rose Bowl matchup with Ohio State. Even though USC is not in the Rose Bowl, I’m thinking Oregon can still carry the Big Ten whipping stick with into the BCS. Why mess with tradition?
We have been waiting for this Alabama-Florida showdown for weeks, yet I’m not sure if it will live up to the hype or not. Better yet, is it possible for it to live up to the hype? Has the hype made us lose sight of reality in this matchup? Only time will tell, but I have a strong feeling on what the outcome will be.
With this being it until bowl season, I’m hoping to put a cherry on top to a nice season of picks. For the record, go look around at similar services offering the same volume of picks or other sportswriters offering every top 25 pick against-the-spread and see how they stack up to yours truly. I think you’ll like the results.
College Football Top 25 Record:
127-118-5 ATS, 200-50 SU
Rutgers (-1.5) covers vs. West Virginia
The Mountaineers are only 1-3 on the road all season. Rutgers 27-21
Pittsburgh (+2) covers vs. Cincinnati
The Panthers spoil Bearcats’ title hopes, Dion Lewis has a big day. Pitt 31-21
East Carolina (+2.5) covers vs. Houston
Quietly, the Pirates have been playing great football and their defense is very good. ECU 28-23
New Mexico State (+48) covers vs. Boise State
This is just too many points, I don’t care who is playing. Boise State 44-7
USC (-7) covers vs. Arizona
The Trojans actually need this game to finish second in the Pac-10 and earn a Holiday Bowl berth, while the Wildcats are a little banged up. USC 27-17
Florida (-5.5) covers vs. Alabama
The Gators have been playing better and ARE BETTER so don’t overthink the loss of Carlos Dunlap or how tough Alabama’s defense is and so on. Tebow in a big game is money, if not because he is a very good college quarterback but we know any iffy calls will go their way. FLORIDA 31-21
California (-6) covers vs. Washington
These are two teams moving in opposite directions, as Cal is 5-1 in their last 6 and Washington is 1-4 in their last 5. Cal 38-24
Texas (-14.5) covers vs. Nebraska
Why mess with tradition? The Big 12 South destroys the Big 12 North in this game every year. Texas will put up points and Nebraska just can’t keep up. Also, with BCS implications on the line, there is no reason to think the Longhorns will be nice and let their foot off the gas pedal. Texas 38-17
Georgia Tech (pk) cover vs. Clemson
In the closest matchup on the board, these two will battle it out to the end with the Yellow Jackets being just a little bit better and more consistent. GT 34-24
