NFL Preseason Free Picks: Bills-Redskins

By Ron Jumper

It was good that the Cowboys and Raiders did virtually no scoring for the first 3 quarters (6 total points) because they combined for 20 points in the fourth quarter, with the Raiders scoring 17 in the final 5 minutes of regulation. It still went a solid 8.5 points under the total and moved me to 2-0 ATS (+$100) so far in the preseason. As for tonight, I’ve got one play that I really like.

The Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills have had very different off-seasons. The Redskins have been in the spotlight at every turn, with the hiring of Mike Shanahan, trading for Donovan McNabb, and the conundrum that is Albert Haynesworth. Meanwhile, Buffalo has made a coaching switch to Chan Gailey and let Terrell Owens go but has remained out of the headlines for the most part. Despite the differences, it is what they have in common that leads me to tonight’s play.

**I’m doing an imaginary $1000 bankroll in an effort to offer gamblers an honest, credible source for picks. There are far too many handicapping services out there that don’t win and continue to take your hard earned money. Think of me as the Robin Hood of sports betting.

Bankroll: $1100, +$100 (+10%)
Record: 2-0 ATS
Pick: Bills/Redskins Under 33.5*Risk $55 to win $50

Both the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins are breaking in new coaching staffs and new offenses. Also, neither offense was particularly potent last season if you will recall, as Washington ranked 26th and Buffalo ranked 28th in points scored while the defenses both ranked in the top half of the NFL in points allowed. To simplify, I think there will be some growing pains early in each respective coaching staff’s efforts to transform these offenses back to respectability. I like Donovan McNabb to make plays when it counts in the regular season but I expect to see very little from him in the preseason, expect Shanahan to limit his snaps tonight. Neither team is very explosive at wide receiver plus both want to be a run-first offense. I like the Under in this one. Enjoy!
